Abstract
A.V. Markov-Vinogradsky, collecting biographical information on A.A. Bestuzhev-Marlinsky in his diary, preferred to describe literary life at the price of the literary fact. Household jokes, being the major focus of interest, overshadow the analysis and evaluation of literary works. In addition, being unacquainted with the writer, Markov-Vinogradsky builds his story mainly on already published sources, but sometimes on rumors circulating in a society close to journalistic and literary circles. Without giving new facts from A.A. Bestuzhev’s life, Markov-Vinogradsky creates an image of the writer-decembrist such as formed in the social consciousness of time.
