280Revista Gestão.Org – 8 (2):279-297 – Mai/Ago 2010AbstractTends for objective to reveal the students' understanding of the main degrees of the Universidadeda Beira Interior (UBI) as for the meaning for themof the phenomena quality and total qualitymanagement, initially it was rescued the history and the main concepts, so much of quality, as oftotal quality management. In the sequence, it camethe accomplished research, that it used thephenomenografic method, of exploratory-qualitativecharacter, close to 144 students of the fivemain degrees of UBI (Sciences of the Communication,Biochemistry, Medicine, Management andCivil Engineering), with the collection of data being accomplished through a structuredquestionnaire. After the accomplishment of the content analyses, it was ended that no there is aconcept of predominant quality, and in the tied courses the health and the exact the most presentconcept is it of resignation with the specifications. Already the linked courses to the social sciences,the most present concepts were quality as value andas service and overcome of the customers'expectations. As the total quality management, an ignorance was verified of what is suchphenomenon. These discoveries aid the organizationsunderstand it what the new professionals ofthe market understand for quality, facilitating like this the decisions of the companies, when thesefocus the quality as a differential one competitive
