Abstract
Take home message Successful weaning from veno-venous ECMO requires understanding and consideration of the complex physiological interactions between the native and the extracorporeal lung. We describe our understanding of the physiological adaptations of the patient as extracorporeal support is weaned and outline the implications for clinical practice.
