Abstract
An overview of the use of the term possessor in the Latin epigraphy of Africa and the discovery of a new territorial landmark a little to the north of Henchir Chaïeb, makes it possible to return to the question of the legal status of the lands administered from this estate centre (private or imperial). In addition, recent surveys have provided new archaeological data on the chronology of the occupation of the site. A toponymic connection with a sufetal city established in the same geographical area, the ciuitas Tapphugabensis, allows the development of the short name Tapp as Tapp(hugabensis).
