Abstract
Manufacturing companies are often organized in global networks. To ensure a high level of competitiveness, each site in the network must assume a specific role and pursue a jointly defined performance capability. This assignment is carried out within the framework of a site role concept. This paper outlines a practice-proven approach to the strategic development of plant roles that takes into account individual restrictions and thus serves companies as a point of reference for their network design.
