Abstract
The basic physical and chemical properties and the total amount of heavy metals, as well as the distribution characteristics of heavy metals in dewatered sludge from the sewage treatment plants of towns in Guangxi were investigated. The results showed that the sludge was acidic. The pH values were between 6. 05 and 6. 35. The average value of total nitrogen content was 49. 74 g/kg, and the average value of total phosphorus was 10. 72 g/kg, indicating that the sludge was rich in nu-trients and had a promosing application prospects in agriculture. The contents of the heavy metals in the sludge, including As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn, were between 26. 31 ~28. 83 mg/kg, 1. 39~3. 77 mg/kg, 78. 07~135. 28 mg/kg, 32. 18~42. 22 mg/kg, 25. 79~44. 40 mg/kg, and 320. 86~363. 72 mg/kg respectively, which met the requirement of Disposal of Sludge from Munici-pal Wastewater Treatment Plant-Control Standards for Agricultural Use ( CJ/T 309-2009 ) of China for B grade sludge, and could be used in relevant crops. The predominant form of Zn and Ni were exchangeable speciation and reducible speciation, which were unstable and could be bioabsorbable easily. Pb existed mainly as reducible speciation, while Cu existed mainly as both reducible specia-tion and oxidizable speciation, which were more stable relatively, and could not be bioabsorbable di-rectly. Cr existed mainly as residual speciation and oxidizable speciation, which were the most sta-ble, and could not be bioabsorbable easily. Besides, the distribution characteristics of as and Cd were uniform relatively.
