Abstract
In order to establish the reference range of symmetric dimethylarginine(SDMA)in cat plasma and explore the diagnostic significance and clinical application value of SDMA in feline chronic kidney disease(CKD),this study collected plasma samples from healthy adult cats and cats with chronic kidney disease(CKD),heart disease(HD),tumors, diabetes mellitus(DM),feline hepatic lipidosis(FHL),and feline infectious peritonitis(FIP)from the China Agricultural University Veterinary Teaching Hospital.SDMA levels were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA),and the reference range for SDMA in healthy adult cats was established. The influence of different diseases on SDMA levels was analyzed. The results showed that the reference range of plasma SDMA in healthy adult cats was 0 to 13.09 μg/dL,and it was not influenced by age, gender, and breed(P>0.05).In cats with CKD,plasma SDMA levels gradually increased with the progression of the disease and were strongly correlation with creatinine(CREA)(r=0.890,P<0.001),reflecting the degree of renal function damage.Compared with the healthy adult control group, cats in the FHL group and FIP group showed extremely significant differences in plasma SDMA levels(P<0.01),and the HD group had a significant difference(P<0.05),while the tumor group and DM group showed no significant difference(P>0.05).The results indicate that plasma SDMA levels have certain significance for the early diagnosis of CKD in cats, and feline hepatic lipidosis and infectious peritonitis in cats may affect SDMA levels.
