Abstract
With the massive construction of the urban railway transit, the vibration effects on the historic buildings by moving trains have aroused a great deal of attention. In this paper, some typical case studies on historic buildings protection from the micro vibration induced by railway transit in the recent two decades have been reviewed. Nowadays in some cities, however, there are some misunderstandings concerning the protection of historic buildings against traffic-induced micro vibrations in the planning, construction and environmental influence evaluation for the new metro lines. Therefore, the significance of the micro vibration control in the historic buildings protection is analyzed. The three key values of historic buildings which should not be affected by the traffic-induced micro vibration are proposed. It is suggested that the classification of the vibration control should be based on the vibration bearing capacity of the building structures and the determination of the vibration limit should be combined with the repair of the historic buildings. Finally based on the existing researches, the comparison of vibration responses by different types of traffic source is done. It is suggested to control the road traffic induced vibrations to protection the historic buildings when taking measures on metro’s vibration reduction.
