Abstract
This paper presents the details of internal architecture of backbone network of GMPLS based high capacity service providers to provide better performance suitable for Next-Generation Networks. The service provider configuration exploits the latest extensions on GMPLS and BGP and is capable to handle time-division, wavelength (lambdas), and spatial switching. The paper discusses the details of overlay, peer and segmented GMPLS deployment models. The implementation of GMPLS allows the use of high capacity Dense Wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) and ultra-dense WDM (UDWDM) based devices and thus multi folding the capacity of Service Provider's Backbone Network. Authors have presented a sample CISCO, Juniper and Ciena based deployment of the service provider (routing, switching and transport) considering the support of latest protocols, security, power optimization and future extensibility. The hardware has been simulated and tested on local laboratory test-bed with necessary assumptions. The presented network service provider is a general purpose service provider and the core can be modified to provide any services that need high capacity Next Generation backbone network.
