Abstract
Chemical dynamics seeks to explain time-dependent phenomena, such as energy transfer and chemical reaction, in terms of the detailed motion of the nuclei and electrons that constitute the system. To obtain information about the product speed and internal states (chemical dynamics), observations must be made immediately after reaction but before the product molecules collide with a wall or with another molecule.Molecules can be isolated in molecular beams, and collisions between these isolated molecules can be observed by crossing two tenuous molecular beams in a region of otherwise high vacuum. The goal of chemical dynamics is to understand kinetic phenomena from the basic laws of molecular mechanics, and it is thus a field that sees close interplay between experimental and theoretical research. An important question regarding the dynamics of chemical reactions has to do with the product energy distribution in exothermic reactions. The rates of most chemical reactions are increased if they are given more energy; that is, most reactions are faster at higher temperatures.
