Abstract
Climatologists specifically define hurricanes as tropical cyclones with maximum sustained winds that reach or exceed a threshold of 119 km/h (74 mi/h). A series of internal circulatory convective systems that thrive on warm water drive hurricanes and give them their characteristic shape and cloud-free inner eyes. Tropical cyclonic seedlings form prior to hurricanes and require specific initial conditions to foster further hurricane evolution. Hurricanes are among the most costly and deadly natural hazards, primarily as a result of storm surge. Research efforts have been made to provide the most accurate short-term forecasts of storm track direction, usually in the form of model ensembles that incorporate climatology, probability, and atmospheric dynamics.
