Abstract
This study is to explore the middle-aged experience men disengaging in voluntary service. To achieve this goal, this study adopts purposive sample and uses qualitative research methods for data collection and analysis of 6 middle-aged men who are currently disengaging in voluntary service. Based on this, the results of this study are as follows: (a) Volunteer service by coincidence; (b) Profit and Nonprofit Motivation; (c) Disengaging from volunteer service due to time constraints, family responsibilities, economic factors and personal lifestyle factors; (d) Negative experiences of volunteering, such as pressure from the superior, donation pressure, conflicts within the group, and volunteer's job's duplicity; (e) Older people tend to prefer to participate in group activities, connect with classmates, travel, take care of grandchildren, and help people through religious activities; (f) The factors in resuming volunteer service are group harmony, depends on one's time availability, and volunteer service based on one's profession. Finally, the paper puts forward the following suggestions to relevant government units about active elderly life: (a) Volunteer service management system: provide flexible voluntary service time, establish a volunteer platform for volunteers based on professional background, and implement volunteer work management and ethics management; (b) Promote active aging policies based on the life expectations of middle-aged and elderly people.
