Abstract
Recent studies have found that Gerhard Leibholz had developed a close relationship with the Nazi jurist Carl Schmitt. Moreover, Carl Schmitt's influences on Bonhoeffer's work have also been detected. Bonhoeffer's theological thinking, including the core concept Stellvertretung, among others, which were related to the jurisprudential point of view. He might even have intended to develop a response to Schmitt. This article explores how this interpersonal relationship may have impacted Bonhoeffer, as well as how it reinterprets the related theological concepts from his Ethics. This approach could shed new light on some existing questions.
