Abstract
Leisure and gender seem to be separate issues, but their core values have many similarities. Respecting differences and encouraging diversity are objectives in leisure and gender issues. Both leisure and gender equity are regarded as universal values. However, the inequity of leisure on gender issues is widespread in society and is easily ignored by the public. This article reviews the concepts of gender issues in the field of leisure, the definition and development of leisure constraints, and gender issues on leisure constraints. In addition, the article systematically searches and analyzes the empirical research on leisure constraints on gender issues in the past 10 years. Some academic perspectives regarding the leisure constraints on gender issues are raised through the systematic review. We further provided some suggestions on the issue of gender equity in leisure, including (a) creating friendly and inclusive leisure services, (b) providing education incorporating gender and leisure implications, and (c) developing domestic leisure research from 'male and female' to 'sexual and gender diversity.' Finally, we suggest some implications for promoting gender equity in everyone's leisurely life for the executive branch, leisure and multicultural educators, and educational organization.
