Abstract
Objectives: An interhemispheric subdural hematoma is a blood clot in the subdural space at the interhemispheric fissure and is an unusual form of subdural hematoma. The clinical course, prognosis and treatment are different from subdural hematoma over the convexity. Contralateral hemiparesis which is worse in the lower extremities than the upper extremities is characteristic of this lesion, and is referred to as falx syndrome. Treatment consisting of conservative observation or a craniotomy, is indicated by the clinical course. Here we present 5 patients diagnosed with interhemispheric subdural hematoma over 2 consecutive years. The overall incidence rate was 1.3% in all patients with intracranial hemorrhage in our hospital during that time. Two of these patients were men and 3 were women, and the average age was 59.6 years old. Falx syndrome was observed in 2 patients with trauma. The 2 patients who survived received a craniotomy.
