Abstract
Objective: To understand the welfare, schedule shifts, vacation schedule, work environment, physical stress, and mental stress of caregivers after implementation of the 'One mandatory day off and one flexible rest day per week' program, and to explore the effects on their quality of life. Methods: This is a phenomenological study including a Giorgi data analysis step. Nursing home caregivers and care attendants at a medical center in Taipei were enrolled. An interview guide was prepared in advance, and the one-on-one face-to-face interview method was adopted. The recorded results were summarized. Results: In total of five care attendants were interviewed by using an intentional sampling method. According to the result summary, most of the staff believed that although the resting time was sufficient, the current manpower was insufficient, work required long-term concentration, salary and benefits had a room for improvement, and feelings of being trivial and lack of self-respect existed at work. Conclusion: The industry management department should pay more attention to the feelings of the caregiving staff by communicating with them and understanding their needs. Moreover, leisure or praise activities should be moderately organized to gather centripetal force and encourage morale. Moreover, a reasonable amount of rest should be provided to caregivers during work to reduce work stress, increase productivity, and improve their quality of life.
