Abstract
Jueyinshu (BL 14) is a highly effective acupuncture point for treating upper tooth pain, discovered by the renowned Japanese acupuncturist Ken Sawada approximately 100 years ago. The treatment of toothache with Jueyinshu was already documented in the Northern Song Dynasty's book Taiping Sheng Hui Fang; however, reports of using Jueyinshu to treat toothache are not commonly seen in modern times. Why Jueyinshu can treat upper tooth pain has been explained by researchers in terms of Zang Fu Bei Tong (extraordinary connections of Zang Fu organs), as well as the cardiac toothache. However, after discussion, these claims were found to be unsubstantiated, and the possible mechanism still awaits further investigation. In addition to treating upper tooth pain, there are also records of other acupuncturists using Jueyinshu to treat lower tooth pain. Based on the experience of Ken Sawada and others, if a toothache patient has a clear tenderness in the Jueyinshu area, treatment with Jueyinshu will be effective. In addition, if a toothache is accompanied by a sensation of the tooth being lifted, treatment with Jueyinshu is also mostly effective.
