Abstract
Life of a submefged nozzle is often limited by steel erosion, mould powder corrosion or alumina clogging. A damaged nozzle can cause severe inclusion problems or failure in casting and results in down grading of steel or rejection by Q. C. In order to maintain consistent steel quality, CSC replaced fused silica submerged nozzle with alumina graphite submerged nozzle in the continuous bloom caster since the end of 1983. The following casting methods were found to be the most economical and effective after long term field observations. 1. Use non-stopper AG submerged nozzle for Al-killed steel. 2. Use stopper AG submerged nozzle for Al-Si-killed steel. In doing so, not only production capacity and number of ladles in a sequence cast has increased but steel quality also has been ensured.
