Abstract
This study was aimed to investigate the effects of three probiotic strains (Enterococcus faecium GK43, Lactobacillus reuteri GKR1, and Lactobacillus paracasei GKS6) on body fat, body weight, and blood biochemical profiles of Wistar rats fed with high fat diet. The rats were randomly divided into five groups: normal diet (ND), high-fat diet (HFD), high-fat diet with GK43 (HFD+GK43), high-fat diet with GKR1 (HFD+GKR1), and high-fat diet with GKS6 (HFD+GKS6) groups. Results showed that daily administration of the probiotics reduced high-fat diet-induced weight gain and that the strain GKS6 was most effective in reducing body and liver weight, visceral and body fat, and serum triglyceride levels in rats (p<0.05).
