Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between high school baseball players' perception of motivational climate and their coping strategies of competitive stress. The participants were 267 high school baseball players who competed at Division I High School Baseball League in Taiwan. The mean age of the players was 16.84 ±. 93 years. Participants were asked to complete a questionnaire assessing their perception of motivational climate, and coping strategies of competitive stress. The results of this study are as followed:(1)The results of Pearson correlation analysis Indicated that perception of task-involved climate was positively related to ”active coping”, ”seeking of social support”, ”emphasis bright side”, ”increasing effort”, ”wishful thinking”, and ”separated not to be affected”. On the other hand, perception of ego-involved climate was positively related to ”avoidance” and ”venting of emotion”.(2)The results of canonical correlation analysis indicated that high mastery climate and performance climate were positively associated with ”active coping”, ”seeking of social support”, ”emphasis bright side”, ”increasing effort”, ”wishful thinking”, ”separated not to be affected”, and negatively associated with ”venting of emotion” and ”avoidance”. The second canonical function indicated that high performance climate and low mastery climate were positively related to ”avoidance” and ”venting of emotion”.
