Abstract
Epigastric discomfort is one of the most common complains in outpatient service and impact patients' quality of life somehow. A 73-year-old female patient presented with severe epigastic discomfort for several years. She reported that she bothered this intractable discomfort a lot and this poor quality of life did not improve even seeking some usual sort of conventional therapies in the past few years. To her surprise, she noticed one hiccup right after taking one sachet of Jia-Wei-Huang-Qin-Tang, the abdomen was dramatically disappeared and since then she was no longer experience any discomfort. This case emphasizes the importance of symptom differentiation which was based on the theory of traditional Chinese medicine.
