Abstract
Veritable Records of the Joseon Dynasty (조선왕조실록) is the major research material of Korean History. In modern times, Sillok is digitized to XML file by National Institute of Korean History, furthermore, it has its own official website conformed to its data structure. However, this website is hard for Non-Korean users, and the main design concept is for display which will limit the usage for research. DocuSky is a platform developed and maintained by Nation Taiwan University Research Center for Digital Humanities, users can establish their own Digital Archives Database on it. The platform provides query search functions, data visualization tools, and others designed for assisting researchers to do text mining. One goal of this experiment is to use these features to help research by converting Sillok file type to fit DocuSky. We will pick some challenges to discuss in text, they are often not only about data structure mapping, but also about the view of users and research needs. Besides the concept of the database construction, we will analyze the complicated XML data structure of the original digital Sillok. By comparing it to the DocuXML, the XML type used by DocuSky, we hope these two digital archives can be explained with the aspect of Computer Science on the data layer. Also, the compatibility of the current DocuXML and DocuSky structure and the readability of open documents will stand the test during this procedure. With all mentioned above, we want to know if there is enough for software engineers to work on digital archives converting or not.
