Abstract
This study aimed to survey drug use attitudes among high school and vocational high school students in southern Taiwan. The research tried to understand the factors which affect drug use attitudes and to develop drug use prevention strategies. Therefore, this study based on Social Control Theory to build up a structural model in order to examine the relationship among attachments, self-control, illegal means, and drug use attitudes. The sample of this study consisted high school and vocational high school students in southern Taiwan. Partial Least Squares Structural Model Equation (PLS-SEM) was used to test this model. Results showed that (a) Attachment indirectly affected drug use attitudes through agreement of illegal means. (b) The agreement of illegal means influenced by low self-control which was affected parental attachment had an impact on drug use attitudes. (c) School attachment and peer attachment not only directly affected drug use attitudes, but also affected through the agreement of illegal means which influenced by association with deviant peers. According to the results, this study made some suggestions to future research about adolescent drug use attitudes and counseling strategies.
