Abstract
Currently, quick response (QR) codes are the most commonly-used two-dimensional barcode technology. Most applications are limited to a single color and can be obtrusive on products. They also have structural limitations that make it difficult to change their appearance, leaving much room for aesthetic improvement. To enhance aesthetic and interactive effects, existing studies have combined QR Code technology with color images; however, these works have been unable to achieve dynamic visual effects. Therefore, this study proposes a two-dimensional barcode design based on dynamic graphics, which we applied to personalized stamps to add animation and to connect URL. The design basis is a 100-LPI lenticular lens with a 6-pixel line pitch equivalent to 0.254 mm. We created three dynamic graphics from different angles and combined them to make a composite image. Using information-hiding by error diffusion, the QR Code in hidden within the dynamic graphics with QR Code on the varied information-strength grayscale values from 50 to 90. We then printed the stamps at 600-dpi quality, used a smartphone to scan the QR Code, and observed the resulting dynamic effects with a lenticular lens. The experiment results indicated that grayscale values under 70 cannot be successful scanned and the optimal scanning distance for grayscale values between 70 and 90 was 10.5 cm. The dynamic design did not affect the QR Code scanning. Greater information strength resulted in shorter scanning time, whereas weaker information strength required longer scanning time, and greater embedding strength resulted in better scanning effects. The lenticular lens over the stamps created dynamic effects, granting users a unique experience.
