Abstract
With rapid technological advancement and dramatic changes in social structure, the education and learning methods of children are constantly changing. Nowadays, the development of learning technologies mainly focus on the ways how to make technology served as learning tools and such a trend also affects the viewpoints toward learning technology. This study is mainly purposed to use 3D printing pens creating artworks for the children from the third to the fifth graders in elementary schools. Through observing the operating conditions made by students, it is available to understand the learning process and experience about school children using 3D printing pens. Based on this, the demands of teaching kits available for students to use 3D printing pens in artwork creation can be proposed. In this study, we designed plane-assembling and 3D frame teaching kits. Through participating observation and Likert-based learning interest scales, we arranged two sessions of courses for 6 children from grade 3 to grade 5 studying in the Suidui Elementary School. Researching results showed the artistic creation was simpler for school children using 'plane-assembling teaching kits' available to reduce the modeling unevenness caused by linear material. Such teaching kits were more suitable for school children from grade 3 to grade 5. However, such teaching kits significantly confined the creativity and trial attempt of school children. Although it was more difficult to use '3D frame teaching kits', yet school children were allowed to exert their artistic creativity. After class hours, school children aggressively asked the available artwork sizes by using 3D printing pens. They, especially the school children from grade 3 to grade 4, also required about practical applicability aside from artistic creation. It was because of the features of 3D printing pens available to create 3D modeling immediately. With 3D printing pens and teaching aids, it could not only enhance the learning interest of students, but also bring different creative experiences to students.
