Abstract
This article describes the nursing care of a teenage girl who developed toxic epidermal necrolysis. The period of nursing care was from November 17 to December 12, 2015. Based on Gordon's 11 Functional Health Patterns, the nurse assessed the patient's problems by conducting a physical examination, administering direct nursing care, making observations, conducting interviews, and reviewing the chart. The health problems of impaired skin integrity, acute pain, and body image disturbance were identified. During nursing care, the following activities were conducted to achieve physical and psychological comfort and restore health: the utilization of different types of dressings to promote skin wound healing and prevent wound infection, pain alleviation, the development of a trusting nurse-patient relationship, easing the patient's fear, and encouraging the patient to express her inner feelings and adopt a positive attitude toward changes caused by the disease. The provision of nursing care to a teenage patient with toxic epidermal necrolysis has been a rare and extremely challenging experience. Hopefully, this experience can serve as a reference for the future nursing care of similar patients.
