Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze the quality of Taekwondo competition using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) model in order to improve the revision of rules. Literature was collected and then interviews were conducted on several sport specialists and Taekwondo professionals. Factors influencing the quality of Taekwondo competition were distracted and designed into a survey through the AHP model. Ten fields of professional sports and Taekwondo specialists were selected for both qualitative and quantative analysis. This study identified three influencing factors on Taekwondo competition quality included excitement of the game, competition levels of athlete performance, and safety policies of the game. This study proposed the future improvement to (1) increase attacking rate and tempo, (2) create higher skills on attacking movements, (3) never give up any possible opportunities to turn defeat into victory, (4) various movement to win scores, (5) improve higher attacking rate, (6) penalty application on passive athletes, (7) field sizes and materials, (8) protection and safety policies, and (9) doping control. Several factors passed internal consistency and their sequences were prioritized. These influencing factors could be offered as guidances for future rule modification in Taekwondo.
