Abstract
Human papillomavirus HPV has been well established as a causative agent in cervical carcinoma as well as in squamous intraepithelial lesions SIL. Morphologic grading of the HPVassociated lesion guides treatment and should ideally reflect the molecular biology of HPV, including the episomal or integrated physical status of the virus.
