Abstract
The chemiluminescence radiation resulting from reactions of Li atoms with Cl2, SF6, and CF2Cl2has been studied using an atomic Li beam entering the reaction chamber at gas pressures of 10-5to 10_3mbar. The spectra were registered with aim scanning grid spectrometer (McPherson) using a 9558 QB multiplier. The spectral lines from excited Li atoms are prominent in all the cases. The dominant reactions seem to be of the same type as they have been found in the earlier studies on alkali metal and halogen gas chemiluminescence reactions. In order to explain the formation of the higher excited atomic levels, however, a reaction M2+ X2→ MX† + MX must be considered.
