Abstract
Administration of antenatal corticosteroids to women who are at risk for preterm delivery and carry singletons decreases the incidence of respiratory distress syndrome in their prematurely born infants. However, it is unclear whether antenatal corticosteroids decrease the incidence of respiratory distress syndrome in women with multiple gestations. The effect of maternal obesity on the volume of distribution of betamethasone has not been evaluated, and some investigators are concerned that the concentration of drug available to the fetus may be different in an obese mother as compared with a nonobese mother.
