Abstract
The article reports on the decrease in the rate of hospital re-admission for patients with pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep venous thrombosis (DVT) after ankle fracture surgery. Nelson Fong SooHoo, medical doctor (MD) and colleagues who used the patient discharge database for California discovered a 0.34% re-admission rate for PE and a 0.05% re-admission rate for DVT, with an overall mortality rate of 1.07%. SongHoo's team also noted an increased risk of re-admission for DVT patients aged 50 to 70 years and those with peripheral vascular disease.
