Abstract
The electrophysiological properties of the monosynaptic junction between sensory neurons and cells within a restricted region of the medial nucleus tractus solitarius (mNTS) have been studied using a brainstem slice preparation. These investigations have enabled us to develop a mathematical model of a sensory afferent synaptic connection to a mNTS neuron. Model development is based upon numerical fits to quantitative data recorded in our laboratory. This work is part of a continuing integrative effort aimed at identifying and characterizing the fundamental electrophysiological properties of this first synapse in the baroreceptor reflex.
