Abstract
The article tries to examine the two versions of the painting "St. Michael Vanquishing the Rebel Angels," by Italian painter Giuseppe Cesari also known as Cavaliere D'Arpino. In 1897, the Städtishe Kunstsammlugen in Freiburg, Germany acquired the painting in oil on copper from Lawyer Ludwig Riegel. By visual comparison with the painting, it was recognized as one of the major works of Cesari, which among the treasures of the Glasgow Art Gallery in Scotland. The Glasgow painting is almost identical with the one at Freiburg in all its delicate, miniature-like detail, as well as in its measurements.
