Abstract
Liners used in potable‐water‐storage reservoirs prior to about 25 years ago were made of predominantly rigid materials. Later, asphalt concrete was introduced, usually with a seal coat, as a lining material in large open reservoirs. About the same time, the development of prefabricated asphalt panels and plastic sheets made it possible to extend the use of linings to all types and configurations of storage reservoirs. This article describes some of these applications, traces the performance of the different lining materials as applied to specific structures, and points out some of the problem areas associated with their uses.
