Abstract
The article presents a case study of epileptic apes at the Milwaukee County Zoo in Wisconsin, which undergo alternative therapeutic options for seizure control. The study examines two female bonobos (Pan paniscus) and an infant male gorilla (Gorilla gorilla). The study describes various drug regimes such as addition of acetazolamide to phenobarbital. The study shows that newer adjunctive therapies and antiepileptic drugs offer additional treatment options of epilepsy in nonhuman primates (NHPs).
