Abstract
The article discusses a study on urate nephrolithiasis in 14 bottlenose dolphins Tursiops truncatus at the U.S. Navy Marine Mammal Program (MMP) using ultrasonographic evidence. At least one renal ultrasound examination was used to evaluate kidneys from the dolphins. Results showed mild and advanced cases have 4.8 and 31.8 mean total number of nephroliths, respectively. Advanced cases also recorded significantly lower urinary potentiometric hydrogen ion concentration (pH). Another finding is the high possibility of anemia in nephrolithiasis cases.
