Abstract
The article cites a study that aims to evaluate objectively the self-conceptions of patients and personnel through the use of the semantic differential technique in a psychiatric hospital which was organized as a therapeutic community. The three categories of social positions were distinguished by both patients and staff which include usual adult social positions, positions unique for the hospital studied, and those related to being a mental patient. The findings were given emphasis related to the reciprocation between the degree of the patients' ego intactness and the social structure of the hospital studied.
