Abstract
In the test area Dreieich-Buchschlag, south of Frankfurt am Main, FRG, investigations on the seepage velocity within multilayered soils are executed since 1984. The measurements contain the evaluation of the amount of seepage water within large-scale lysimeters and measurements of the soil moisture content. Moreover, the soilwater and seepage water is analysed on hydrochemical parameters and the 18O contents. The results of the first two observation years show much higher seepage velocities than usually expected. Especially in clay soils relatively fast water movements were found, in contrary to their low permeability. This is attributed to water movements in macro and medium size pores which represent only a minor portion of the total pores, but are responsible for a significant part of the waterflow.
