Abstract
•Measurement of circulating endothelial cell (CEC) level is a valuable and direct tool for diagnosing SOS/VOD after allo-HCT.•Preconditioning CEC level can predict the development of SOS/VOD.•Combining CEC level with bilirubin level and use of haploidentical donor may help predict SOS/VOD.•Increased CEC levels can aid SOS/VOD diagnosis, especially of late-onset VOD.•CEC kinetics may assist in refining defibrotide treatment strategies.
