Abstract
The article discusses a study which investigated the solid particle erosion behavior of seven ferrous metals used in pipeline pressure control valves. Erosion experiments were performed including the 17-4ph SS, Type 316L SS, and A240 Type 410 SS as candidate for gas pipeline pressure control valves. One finding suggests that candidate materials cannot be predicted alone by the as-received bulk hardness of the material but the hardening or softening of material due to particle impingement.
