Abstract
The article presents the author's jazz waltz interpretation of George Gershwin's song "Summertime." Gershwin's theme is based on repeated bass figure suggesting one of the most common of jazz waltz rhythms. A right hand improvisation on the D blues scale and various double-note passages using D as its top note are also included. A musical notation of "Summertime" is also included.
