Abstract
Chapter 5.3 of the book "Dynamic Food Webs: Multispecies Assemblages, Ecosystem Development & Environmental Change," is presented. The chapter looks at four decomposer food webs in a European forest transect and examines the contribution of different functional groups to the mineralization of carbom and the possible effects of increased nitrogen inputs on microbial subsystems and its implications to total carbon balance. The study also analyzes the stability of the decomposer food web as indicated by its biomass pyramids within the main energy channels.
