Abstract
A reprint of the article "Fire-starting Using Bamboo," by Edward Read, which appeared in the "ABS SoCal Newsletter" is presented. It talks about the bamboo that was used in South East Asia to quickly start a fire in the days before matches. Starting a fire through a bamboo is referred to by anthropologists as the bamboo strike-a-light wherein a dried bamboo culm is struck with a piece of broken pottery or flint to produce a spark for lighting tinder. Clues about the bamboo species used in starting a fire are discussed.
