Abstract
The article focuses on the tiles with the devices of the Medici Pope Leo X made by Nicoluso Francisco, discovered in the course of the restoration of the Castel S Angelo in Rome, Italy from 1911 onwards. It notes that the maiolicate tiles with the Medici devices have a white ground with the design defined by a small border in relief and with the devices and decoration painted in blue and a reddish color. The finds in the Calle Pureza show that Francisco played a major part in the development of the arista tiles.
