Abstract
The main purpose of the experiment was to investigate the effects of an uncontrived stress on emotional reactions and on the nature and frequency of intrusive thoughts. The behaviour and reactions of twenty five mothers whose children were being admitted to hospital for surgery were compared to those of twenty five control group mothers.
