Abstract
The article offers information on the connection between periodontal disease and cardiovascular disease based on cross-sectional/retrospective studies and prospective/interventional trials made. One study made on common inflammatory mediators focusing on C-reactive protein (CRP) reveals that patients with periodontitis has an increased risk of having coronary heart disease (CHD). It concludes that non-surgical periodontal therapy decreases serum hsCRP that improves periodontal and endothelial function.
