Abstract
The article analyzes the effectiveness of the use of technology in schools in the U.S. Most of the public and private schools in the U.S. have the latest state-of-the-art technology in their classrooms. However, there is no conclusive evidence that technology in the classroom actually helps to teach students. Even if there is a benefit, the current or expected benefit does not match the amount of money and resources being expended to put technology into the classroom. Computer software and hardware firms are feeding this greed for technology claiming that their products are the answer to shrinking budgets and overcrowded classrooms. A five-year, $15 million study will be launched by the Department of Education that will address whether technology is an effective teaching tool. INSET: A federal case.
