Comparison of the Chemical Bonding in (Eind)2Ge=E (E = O and S): Synthesis and Characterization of Germanethione Bearing Bulky Eind Groups

Abstract
A new diarylgermanethione, (Eind)2Ge=S, supported by the fused-ring bulky Eind groups (Eind = 1,1,3,3,5,5,7,7-octaethyl-s-hydrindacen-4-yl) has been obtained as yellow-orange crystals by the direct reaction between the diarylgermylene, (Eind)2Ge:, and elemental sulfur in solution. The structure and bonding nature of the germanethione have been compared to those of its oxygen congener, germanone, (Eind)2Ge=O. We also report the X-ray structure analysis of the hydroxy(mercapto)germane, (Eind)2Ge(OH)(SH).A monomeric diarylgermanethione, (Eind)2Ge=S, supported by the fused-ring bulky Eind groups (Eind = 1,1,3,3,5,5,7,7-octaethyl-s-hydrindacen-4-yl) has been obtained as yellow-orange crystals by a direct reaction between the diarylgermylene, (Eind)2Ge:, with elemental sulfur (S8).
