Abstract
Obesity is associated with inflammation at the level of the fat tissue, but the initiating mechanisms are unclear. Toll like receptors (TLRs) are at the frontline of innate immunity. TLRs sense specific exogenous and endogenous ligands. TLR3 typically recognizes double-stranded RNA. Although expression of TLR3 in adipocytes has been shown, the functional effects of TLR3 stimulation in adipocytes are unknown.
