Abstract
The article examines the iconography of a Safavid textile. In reveals that in the 16th- and 17th-century Persia, a growing appreciation for literature and the graphic arts resulted in the resurgence of the art of illustration. Many of the illuminated manuscripts were produced throughout the Safavid realm. Some of the themes that emerged at this period found their way into various literary sources used to decorate woven material.
